About Deep Purple

Built on 26 Years of Delivering Technology That Works

We're not consultants who discovered AI in 2023. We've been building intelligent systems for over 14 years — and we're still the ones who deliver your project.

Deep Purple AI Consulting is an AI consultancy and custom software development company for established businesses. Based in Longford, we work with clients across Dublin, Belfast, Galway, and nationwide — as well as Northern Ireland, the UK, and internationally. Every engagement is delivered by senior people, no junior developers, no outsourced teams.

We help businesses understand where AI can make a measurable difference, then build the systems to make it happen — custom AI software, data analytics, machine learning models, and business process automation. Government grants typically cover 50–80% of the cost for eligible Irish and UK businesses. See what we've built for Irish businesses.

    Leadership

Brian Egan — Founder and CEO of Deep Purple AI Consulting

    Founder & CEO

Brian Egan is the Founder and CEO of Deep Purple AI Consulting. With over 26 years in software and AI, from studying neural networks at Dublin City University, to building intelligent mobile systems for Vodafone, Nokia and Hutchison 3G, to founding five technology companies that delivered machine learning, computer vision and predictive AI solutions to real businesses, Brian has been building with AI technologies at every stage of their evolution.

His interest in artificial intelligence began at DCU, where he studied neural networks and pattern recognition as part of his BSc in Computer Applications. As a Marie Curie Research Fellow in Germany, he worked on EU Framework projects developing intelligent systems for integrating emerging mobile technologies with enterprise software. At Cibenix (2003 to 2011), he spent eight years designing on-device software for Vodafone, Nokia, Hutchison 3G, Sony Ericsson and other global operators, work that increasingly involved content personalisation, user behaviour analysis and adaptive delivery logic.

In 2012, Brian founded Purpledecks, a software consultancy that incorporated machine learning, computer vision, data classification, predictive features and recommendation engines into client projects years before the current generative AI wave. From Purpledecks came Hype4 (UX research including AI-powered biometric identification for government programmes), Mapall (fibre optic network intelligence with spatial analytics and route optimisation) and Reactable AI (one of Ireland's earliest production deployments of autonomous AI agents).

A former Marie Curie Research Fellow with five companies founded and three still operating, Brian leads Deep Purple's work with established businesses across Ireland, the UK and internationally, helping them identify where AI delivers genuine commercial value and guiding them from first assessment through to working system.

Barry Gough — CTO of Deep Purple AI Consulting

    CTO

Barry Gough is the CTO of Deep Purple AI Consulting. With an MSc in Computer Science from University College Dublin, where machine learning was a core focus of his studies, and over 20 years building production software systems, Barry brings formal ML training and deep hands-on engineering experience to every AI and data analytics engagement.

Barry completed his masters at UCD in 2011, studying ML algorithms, statistical modelling and data-driven systems just as big data techniques were maturing and deep learning was about to transform the industry. At Purpledecks (Deep Purple's predecessor consultancy), he spent nearly a decade progressing from Senior Developer to Head of Operations, leading the technical delivery of enterprise projects that increasingly incorporated machine learning, computer vision, data classification, predictive features and recommendation engines for commercial clients across Ireland and the UK.

In 2023, as CTO of Reactable AI, Barry architected and built an autonomous AI marketing engine from the ground up, a self-learning system that generates and optimises marketing campaigns across channels. This was one of Ireland's earliest production deployments of autonomous AI agents, requiring him to design systems where AI made real decisions with real consequences.

At Deep Purple, Barry leads all technical delivery: AI system architecture, machine learning model development, data pipeline engineering, and manages a team of experienced ML engineers and applied statisticians. His combination of formal ML education, a decade of incorporating AI into commercial projects and hands-on experience architecting autonomous AI systems means clients work with a technical lead who can make genuine engineering decisions about AI.

For advanced data science and predictive modelling, we partner with university research talent — bringing PhD-level machine learning and statistical analysis capability to commercial projects. Deep Purple remains fully accountable for project delivery and system performance; specialist modelling support is integrated where it improves results.

Deep Purple didn't start in 2024. It's the evolution of Purpledecks — a software development company founded by Brian Egan in 2012 that delivered digital transformation projects for businesses across Ireland and internationally for over a decade.

As machine learning, computer vision, and predictive analytics became commercially viable through the 2010s, Purpledecks evolved with the technology — incorporating AI capabilities into client projects years before the current generative AI wave. The team built recommendation engines, predictive features, data classification systems, and computer vision solutions for real businesses.

Deep Purple AI Consulting was founded in late 2024 as the culmination of that journey — same team, same standards, same track record — now focused entirely on AI.

We work best with established businesses — typically 10 or more employees — who are serious about using AI to solve real operational problems.
